We all find excuses not to eat before a workout, but this terrible habit needs to stop. Why?
Think of a car, before you go on a long drive, you fill it up with fuel, right? So, why don’t you do the same thing for your body?
If you want to maximize your performance throughout your workout, then you need to get your body energized with its fuel: food!
But, not just any snack will do, your body needs the right amount of carbs, protein, and healthy fats for you to have one hell of a workout session.
Whole Grains
Whole grains are an excellent source of complex carbs that make sure your body stays fueled throughout your workout.
Ideally, you should eat something with whole grains, like bread, cereal, or pasta, about 2 to 3 hours before you start your exercises.
Bananas
This yellow fruit is full of quick acting carbs that turn into sugars to fuel your body. And, they’re packed with potassium, which keeps your nerves and muscles functioning properly.
Why not mix up this snack? Try having a sliced banana on a whole grain piece of bread, and a little cinnamon for flavor. You can thank us later!
Apples
Just like bananas, apples, are packed with carbs that give your body an energy boost. If you plan on working out within an hour, have an apple, it’s a brilliant snack.
But, if you intend on spending a long time exercising, you might want to have your apple with a tablespoon of almond butter to keep you going.
Oats
An excellent breakfast and perfect for a pre-workout snack. They’re high in fiber (great if you have constipation issues), and carbs which get slowly released into your bloodstream while you’re exercising.
If you want to have a great workout, eat this snack about ½ an hour before you get started. Looking to make this snack a little more interesting? Then add some fruits, for your fluid intake, or nuts, for extra protein.
Greek Yogurt
Okay, this snack can be found anywhere, thanks to its recent popularity. This snack comes packing with quality carbs and high protein. Literally, the perfect pre-workout snack.
If you want to switch things up, add some dry fruits to your yogurt pot.
Smoothies
Before we explain why these drinks are good for you, we have to say: YUM!
These drinks are easy to consume (all you do is drink), refreshing (especially on a summer day), and pack a lot of nutrients.
Ideally, you should down one of these about 60 minutes before you get started. Your perfect blended smoothie is a banana, berries, and almond milk. Literally, high carbs, a decent amount of protein, and low fat and sugar.
If you want to achieve your goals, then make sure you fuel your body the right way!
